Looking for a summery tune that might have a bigger message? My vote for song of the summer goes to the dance-pop hit “King” by British electronica trio Years and Years. At first listen, “King” sounds like a breakup anthem with all the familiar sentiments… “you were too controlling… you were keeping me down… I’m glad to be free of you,” but after a few more plays, I started to think of a different king — Christ the King — standing before Pilate as a condemned man. (“I was a king under your control/I want to feel like you’ve let me go”). Even though Jesus was a king, he chose not to exercise that status. Instead, he chose to relinquish his authority and live under the control of earthly…

Dave at the door of the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem, making the traditional Easter proclamation, “Christos Anesti.” (Greek for “Christ is Risen”) Alleluia! He is risen! Christians the world over rejoice today in the Good News of Jesus Christ.  Our faith in Him makes all things possible: forgiveness, resurrection, and love. Busted Halo® knows that this is a message young adults need to hear! And we are here to tell them that with faith as small as a “mustard seed,” they can transform themselves and their world. Through articles and blogs on our online magazine, we…

Lenten greetings! During this holy season, we can hear the words of John the Baptist calling us to repent, reform and refocus. We at Busted Halo® are undergoing evaluation and changes of our own as we move forward in our strategic plan this year. Here’s a sampling of what’s coming in 2015: We are engaging the expertise of communications and marketing agencies to evaluate the effectiveness of our online presence and social media efforts in reaching twentysomethings. This will involve an evaluation of content, design and distribution method. We are conducting an analysis of our target audience through independent focus groups and agency research to help guide our strategic direction for the next three…

“So, how about that new pope?” Since March, I’ve heard this question countless times from people of all walks of life, almost all of whom want to tell me how much they love Pope Francis. He has given us at Busted Halo® new hope and inspiration for our outreach to young adults; in Rio de Janeiro this summer for World Youth Day he said: “Dear brothers and sisters, let us be lights of hope… Let us encourage the generosity which is typical of the young and help them work actively in building a better world. Young people are a powerful engine for the Church and for society.” As we prepare to receive the light of Christ this Advent season, I am hopeful for how young adults can be a “powerful engine” driving…

Please send Japan your support and prayers
This past week we have all been confronted with images and tragic stories from Japan as a result of the tsunami and earthquake there. It remains clear that untold serious dangers continue to threaten the lives of the victims of this tragedy. Therefore, we at Busted Halo have chosen to postpone our 10 in 10s anniversary fundraising campaign in order to join together with other nonprofits and Catholic agencies to ask for your help in assisting those affected by these natural disasters in Japan.

A conversation on faith and his career -- from the Brat Pack movies to The Dead Zone
Anthony Michael Hall got his big break as an actor when he was cast as Rusty in the family road trip movie Vacation, followed closely by three seminal films from the 80s: 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. He was then the youngest cast member ever on Saturday Night Live. He also bullied Johnny Depp around in Edward Scissorhands and he was part of the Emmy-nominated made-for-TV movie where he played Bill Gates in The Pirates of Silicon Valley. More recently he starred in the sci-fi thriller TV show, The Dead Zone, which he also helped co-produce, and played TV reporter Mike Engel in last summer’s blockbuster The Dark Knight. The actor stopped by the Busted Halo show on Sirius XM Radio to talk about…
