Nicole, a U.S. citizen, prepares to move her four children to rural Mexico to be with her husband who has been barred from reentering the United States.

In this segment, Nicole explains how her husband was barred from returning to the United States. Because of this, she is planning on moving with her kids to Mexico.

In video two, Nicole talks about the difficulties she’s facing uprooting her four kids and moving to a foreign country.

With the help of a grant from the Carnegie Corporation, BustedHalo.com began covering the issue of immigration in a unique way. Instead of contributing to the glut of coverage about immigration, BustedHalo is featuring stories by immigrants themselves about the issue. We distributed Flip video cameras to undocumented individuals and agencies across the country and asked them to start video blogging for a period of at least three months.

Busted Borders is an attempt to use the web’s unfiltered nature to move the immigration debate away from abstractions and statistics. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, we hope to give a personal glimpse into the humanity of these strangers in our midst. For reasons of safety, some of the participants have opted to keep their last names and locations secret.

Busted Borders is an ongoing project and we are still in its early stages. If you or someone you know is interested in participating please contact us at borders@bustedhalo.com.

Busted Borders Producer: Bill McGarvey; Project coordinator: Mirlande Jeanlouis.

my name is jamie i am nicoles cousin.. not really sure what to say right now, just like i wasnt sure what to say or how to say what i want to but wouldnt kno wher to start. and i couldnt get on camera and actually talk about what has been going on without crying… i will start off by saying nicole is my best friend.. my rock for years, i take what she has to say to heart everytime. she is a wonderful mother and an amazing wife. daughter and grand daughter. i am still in shock i talk or at least get to tex nicole every single day of my life.. i missed the baby’s 1st birthday.. could you imagine having to leave evrything you own have worked for behind.. uproot your child from their friends family but most importantly those children’s education.. the culture shock they are facing to too unreal to even think about. i feel for her i feel for those babies.. my babies thats my family!!!! i worry bout them day and night.. at the same time i respect the hell out of her for obvious reason.. love family support.. alec is one of the most amazing genuine man i have ever met. i coulodnt have wished anyone better for my cousin. unlike most american men alec takes care and has always took care of his responsibilities.. he would only be an asset to this country. starting to get frustrated now thinking about it but i love my cousin!!!! somethings gotta change…..
