Thanks for this article. I almost feel like I know him now. Your words make clear the conscience and grace in the real Captain Lou Albano and the love of God he carried in his heart.

This article really touched me, Catherine. I first noticed Captain Lou in the long version of the Goonies video, where he played a total buffoon and looked as though he enjoyed every minute of it. I couldn't have guessed that he was such a devout Catholic and generous friend, but hearing it wouldn't have surprised me. No man who takes his dignity so lightly can be all bad.

Excellent, well-written, and heartfelt article! It's great to read about a real Catholic life, one lived in obedience to the Church and yet larger-than-life.....

Catherine,

Thank you for sharing this article. I think it's important these days to keep reminding Catholics - especially young Catholics - how there are so many PROUD Catholics out there that you might not suspect. Being Catholic doesn't mean being all serious, all pious, all grieving, all the time.

There's one thing I can say about Captain Lou, every time I saw him on TV he looked like he was having a blast in life!

Thanks again for writing this article!

Thank you for sharing your story about Lou. It is amazing how little we know about the truth of people until they die and we are reminded by the people like you, who knew the real person. It is great to hear about a good soul.Catherine, thank for the good thoughts. R.I.P LOU, may now share in eternal rest and have peace-Glen

Aww, that was sweet. How cool you knew him so well! Now imagine if Carmel has become more culturally wasted, how it feels to live 4 hours away from NYC. It's like another planet!

What a touching and inciteful article. I have a different perspective of Lou after reading this vivid and descriptive profile. I am well over middle age and saw Lou in a different and am ashamed of being single minded in only seeing one aspect of him. Thank you so much for opening my eyes in seeing beyond the very obvious . I am sorry now that after all the times I sat near him I never saw what probably was the real man.

Thanks for this, Catherine. I have many fond memories of watching the Captain on TV, and of being at Madison Square Garden when Roddy Piper cracked Albano over the head with one of Lauper's gold records.

I am fascinated by how your picture of a prayerful man at Sunday Mass contradicts the stories of a hard-partying Captain I've been hearing from his colleagues on wrestling podcasts. I have a feeling that in spite of all that, his faith kept him steady and eventually won out over the other parts of his life.

In the resurrection on the last day, however, Captain Lou will be allowed to keep the rubber bands hanging from his face.
