I've always loved the film (Fr. Barry has long been my image of the ideal priest), and it was fascinating to read the true story behind it. I'm struck, too, by the number of times that fear of "giving scandal" has allowed injustice to flourish. The sex abuse scandals of the Church are an obvious and horrifying example.
