True, many biblical scholars have favored the synoptic Passion narratives, however, Raymond Brown makes a very compelling argument favoring the Johanine tradition in which the Last Supper preceeds the Passover, since among other things, it would be unlikely for capitol punishment to be meted out during the pesach observance. Many other scholars have since followed Fr. Brown's arguments, positing that the Last Supper would have been a Passover-like seder, rather than an actual Passover Seder. You also state "though the Hebrew and Roman calendars are different, Easter and Passover always occur around the same time of year." True, the two feasts always fall in the Spring-time, but the two can be as much as a month apart during a Jewish leap year in which there are two months of Adar. For instance, in 1997 Easter fell on March 30 and Passover began on April 22 and in 2005 Easter fell on March 27, but Passover wasn't until April 24! I think that would be stretching the notion that the two "always occur around the same time of year." Thank you for the Lenten calendar.
