Why do women seem to associate being a woman with having children? How is a woman any less a woman by not having kids? Men seem to get along just fine feeling that they are fullly men even if they don't have kids.

I applaud those that do want to be good mothers and see that as an important expression of their womanhood, but I also applaud those who choose to be childless and are fruitful in society in different ways, such as intellectual and social pursuits.

Interesting article. I was with you right up to the comment "But few of us who don’t have our own children are completely at peace with our decisions." I wonder how true it is for most women who choose not to have kids. I know for me, I am completely at peace with that idea for myself; however, I become uncomfortable fending off other's comments such as: "selfish" or "regretful" or "unCatholic", especially when these people have no idea what it is like to be in my shoes. The selfish comment particularly rankles, especially since it seems like there is nothing more selfish in the world than to have children just so that you can continue your gene line and to have someone to take care of you when you get old (which are the two main reasons why people I've talked to have kids)
