Word on the Street : Forgiveness

Do you think there is anything in the world that can’t be forgiven?

Emilie, 20
I don't think that's true at all. We read Nietzsche in school this year and he talks about the fact that forgiveness is a sign of weakness. Forgiveness is only what you do when you can't get revenge. I don't think that's true. I think you can forgive anything. But, maybe that's just me. I think I came to this perspective because it's my heart.

No. I think everything can be forgiven. That's just based on my own observations. When people aren't willing to forgiven, it can often lead to further conflict that could be avoided if people would just accept we are all human and people make mistakes. I think everyone has the capacity in their heart to be forgiving.

No. Personally, nothing so terrible has happened to me, and I can't really say unless somebody killed my mother or something. I feel like you can maybe not forget but you can forgive. It depends on the circumstances.

What about people like terrorists? Do you think they can be forgiven for acts of violence against the innocent?

I mean, it depends on their motivation. If you're talking specifically about the terrorists, I think it's a terrible way to get the message across, killing innocent people. But can they be forgiven? By whom? Me personally? I think it was a terrible thing, but it depends on what they learned growing up.

Anything can be forgiven. The Lord and our God is a forgiving God. And how he forgives, he wants his children to do the same. Being that we live in this worldly world, a lot of us aren't that educated and our hearts are influenced by other people's ways and their behavior and their way of thinking.

What about people like terrorists or events like the Holocaust? Do you think they can be forgiven for acts of violence against the innocent?

Well I think that in the book of Revelation, the little that I know of it. When you read the Bible it is written about what did happen and what will happen toward the end. And it speaks about countries going against countries. Children going against their parents. All of the violent behavior going on today. The bottom line is that Satan is making his moves. I think it should be forgiven. We have no control over those things.

God forgave those that crucified him and that's a big issue. I think that we can forgive whatever they do to us.

What about people like terrorists or events like the Holocaust? Do you think they can be forgiven for acts of violence against the innocent?

We need to look at what part did we play in all of that. It's not just one sided. There are still some hidden agendas we don't know about. Who knows if we'll ever know. But because of God and what He says in the Bible we should forgive because He forgave.
