Word on the Street : Ten Commandments

“How many of the Ten Commandments can you name? How many do you think you keep?”

Geysel, 26
Um, you will love God over many things. You should respect your mom and dad. You won't steal or take others belongings. And that's about it. That's three, right? I would say that I keep five or six. It's hard to keep the one's about lying. The one's about committing adultery and being jealous or coveting. I'm not jealous.
Anna, 23
Okay, you won't steal. You won't love the woman of your neighbor. You will love God above all things. I think about seven or eight of the commandments.
Gerardo, 23
I can't really think of any others that they [Geysel and Anna] didn't say. Taking the name of God in vain, I don't think I do the best with that one.
Molly, 22 (right) -- Nicole, 21 (left)
Molly: I'd say I have a general gist of at least eight of them. Okay, in no particular order. Thou shall not kill. Shall not steal. Shall not covet thy neighbor's wife. Thou shall not honor any other gods. Wow, it's been so long. I think I try to. Sunday is not doable for me with rehearsals and what not. I do what I can. I don't think about it much, but I try to follow the right way. My dad's really religious, so he instilled his values in me. It's not something I think about, just something I live.

Nicole: Is do unto others as you would have done unto you something in the commandments or just in the Bible? Wait, thou shall not commit adultery. I agree. I don't do that. Like honoring your mother and father or not taking the Lord's name in vain. I do do that. My mom is very world religion oriented. And a lot of these things are about respect.
Elizabeth, 18
Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife. Thou shall not put any gods before me. That's the most important one. Thou shall not be gluttoness? I know there's some gluttoness thing with Christianity. This is terrible. I'm Catholic, so I should know these. No, that's [gluttony] is a deadly sin. Thou shall not steal. I give up. I think some of them I practice on a daily basis like thou shall not covet they neighbor's goods or wife. But I don't know if I do so well with the father mother one or the Sabbath.
Chuck, 18
See, I don't know if I can think of more [than Elizabeth]. I don't do the big one's, not to kill or steal. But the honoring your father and mother one, honoring meant something a lot different then than it does today. I think general respect is true but I don't know about to honor. And I actually try not to take the Lord's name in vain, but that doesn't happen too often. But I try.
