I think that perhaps they did not have eyes to see that is was Him. They were in denial. Similar to the modern situation of the elephant in the room that nobody sees. Jesus was supposed to be dead, not resurrected in the flesh. Their finite minds couldn’t grasp infinite the reality of this. Just like can we can not fully grasp the magnitude of a God who is not bound by linear time.
