The Church promotes the Lourdes apparitions as "Worthy of Belief," but no individual is bound to put their faith in any private revelation. Instead, we are bound as Catholics to believe in all public revelation, which ceased with the death of the last Apostle (i.e. sacred scripture and sacred apostolic tradition).

The title of "Immaculate Conception" predates the apparitions at Lourdes. In fact, the apparition's claim of that title is often presented as circumstantial evidence for the apparition's legitimacy. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception (not the teaching itself) was established in 1854 and it is unlikely that a 14 girl from the French countryside would think up such a title on her own just 4 years later. That's certainly not proof, but interesting in and of itself.

Does the Church accept as truth that the appearance of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes, and Bernadette describes the "Lady" as the "Immaculate Conception"is where the title came from?
