Tuesday of the Second Week of Lent

Return to the Lent calendar.

Lenten Fact

Today is Purim. This Jewish holiday is one of many that celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people from a threat — in this case, the 6th Century BCE Persian vizier Haman’s plan to exterminate the Jews, described in the Book of Esther. Interesting in relation to Lent is that this holiday is honored by celebrating noisily and publicly — sometimes including excessive drinking and street parades in masks and crazy costumes — a bit like week before last’s Mardi Gras.

(Of course, we are also coming up on Passover. Since the Last Supper was a Passover Seder, though the Hebrew and Roman calendars are different, Easter and Passover always occur around the same time of year.)

Fast from an electronic habit by 50% (cell phone, internet etc.)

Pray for people who don’t have access to electricity or any kind of technology that makes our life easier.

Give that extra time to talk to someone important and special in your life and add $1 to your FastPrayGive Bowl. (Your FastPrayGive Bowl is a container you’ve set aside to hold the money saved from various fasting challenges, to be used for whatever charity you choose at the end of Lent.)

Slipped up? Don’t give up. Start again and share your
struggles at our “Slip Support Station” on Facebook.
